Description: Estate’s Interest In a 28″ W x 22″ L, Framed (24 x 18 unframed), lithograph of silk and oil lithograph by Ozz Franca entitled ‘The Lovers”. It is a Limited Edition (586/2400) with Certificate of Authentication and features high quality and light resistant inks. Known for his best known work for sensitive portrayals of both historical and contemporary Native Americans. Brazilian born, Franca became a film illustrator in the 1940’s for Walt Disney and his works there included for Disney films Lady and the Tramp and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
Franca felt painting is to grasp a harmony between numerous different relationships and transpose them into a visual scale. His color on canvas is a function of light, varing intensity and quality. Even the shadows are made up of color, animated by the reflections of the neighboring tones, harmonious, vivid and vibrant, Franca was continually aware of the vibrancy with which light surrounds things, the quality of light itself, its subtle flow, its reflections which both build up and dissolve forms with rhythmic patters, harmony of line, and brilliant color. The vibrancy builds up and dissolve forms with rhythmic patterns, harmonies of line and the splendor of color.
In colors of white, soft pink, flesh tones, and gray, Franca creates an image of a Native American couple asleep in each other’s arms, and enduring symbol of love.
